THAILAND | PHUKET PART 02

Trying to paddle a canoe, all by yourself, when you're miles away from the shore and in the midst of beautiful blue water. Your eyes can see nothing when you look around, except for the slightly nervous and slightly elated faces of others trying to accomplish the same. Friendly diving competitions ensue on board the cruise and you know that this trip was totally worth-it!

Phuket, much like the rest of Thailand, is a place of culture, of temples and of paying respect to traditions. We visited the biggest buddhist temple in the vicinity, The Wat Chalong, decked in glorious reds and oranges. A strange silence seemed to surround the entire area, welcoming in many ways. And even though i couldn't understand most of what i saw or read there, there is a comfortable joy in just standing in one corner and observing the daily prayers of the people there.

Accompanied by heaps of coconut water, jingling souvenirs and the friendly tuk-tuk driver, we made way to the Big Buddha in Phuket. The best sounds i've heard and the best ice cream i have had, sum up this place for me surely! Hundreds and thousands of bells hung from branches, swaying with the most soothing of melody. And freshly made coconut ice cream topped with roasted peanuts…This was heaven for sure.

The best cruise we took during our entire stay had to be the cruise to Phang Na Bay, or as most commonly known - The James Bond Island. Our cruise company called 'Anda cruise' was brilliant in more ways than one. We danced with them, ate delicious food on board with them, joked around and just had a wonderful time while away from the shore.

Canoeing through bat caves, remembering to keep your head low all the time, while trying to mask the awe that washed over me when we reached the beautiful lagoons…Was amazing. This is something that needs to be experienced to be understood. Every time i turned my head to take in the scene, i wished i could somehow set up a shelter and stay the night.

James Bond island was the last stop in the cruise. Bustling with tourists and souvenir selling women who drag you by the hand and make you try on bracelets, this was a fun little stop gap before heading home. We climbed over rocks and stones to reach the hill that offered the best view of the island you were on as well as the chunk of the actual island in the middle.

I think i was pretty heartbroken to be leaving Phuket so soon, having accustomed myself to the touristy life there. Searching for breakfast in 7-11's, trying out all assorted crisps and cookies we saw, ending days with instant noodles and local drinks, and walking around aimlessly on Bangla road. Not to mention, sleeping on the beach and building sandcastles that looked funny.

The only happy prospect out of this all? We're heading to Bangkok soon!

MAKE IT | SPRAY PAINTED JAR CANDLES (part 02)

In a previous post , we made beautiful spray painted heart jars. Here is part two of the tutorial where I turn those same jars into decadent smelling candles. You need: Candle wax of your choice Candle wick Mason Jar (Follow the tutorial here ) Fragrance Oil  Before you begin, be sure you have the appropriate type and size of the wick. If your jar is wide, make sure wick is wide enough in diameter to burn optimally. And, if its narrow and long, make sure the length of the wick is sufficient enough.  Measure out the amount of wax needed. For this project, I melted the wax in a make-shift double boiler made from two metal containers—one small and one large. Fill water in the large container. Put the wax in the smaller container and place it in the larger one. Melt the wax on low to medium-low heat. Never leave melting wax unattended! While the wax is melting, secure your wick to the bottom of your mason jar. Dip the end in the melting wax and a...

THE MIXTAPE PROJECT / 01

I've been working on this series idea for a while now and finally it's here! The Mixtape Project, a series to document interesting people, their music choices and their personal quirk. Here is my first guest for today... MAYANK KUMAR / DELHI If you could pick one, which superhero would you be?  I don't really follow the superhero concept but if I had to, I guess i'd pick Batman. That's simply because of his sharp mind and his ability to solve humongous issues with just his mere intellect. What would your DJ name be?  Can't imagine myself behind a console wearing earphones bigger than my face. But I guess 'Max' would do? Or just M? What's your favourite joke?  A jealous haryanavi man opened his own momos shop right next to the famous 'Yo! China' and named it 'Yo! Bhi China'. What's the weirdest nickname people call you? Mickey. My first birthday cake had a Mickey Mouse on it. And that's where the name ...
